This course introduces techniques, repertoire, and the history of bluegrass banjo and related styles. This course may be used for partial fulfillment of the Triad Education Artistic Expression course requirement and may be repeated for a maximum of 8 credits. Prerequisite: Prior experience on the instrument and permission of instructor. Priority is given to music majors and minors.

Each week during class, students will use their phones to video record that week’s assignment. Students are expected to practice regularly and to have the assignment memorized by the next class meeting. Class time will be used for troubleshooting, playing together, and discussion. We will focus on learning by ear, but tablature will be provided on an as-needed basis.
