Sculptural Fiber is an introduction to the capabilities of fiber in designing and sculpting 3D forms. Through a process-based approach to sample making and project ideation, traditional and experimental use of media and technique will be used to create a broad range of soft sculpture artworks of varied materials and scale. Incorporation of found and reclaimed materials to derive a meaningful and sustainable creative practice will be a component of this course, encouraging students to consider the conceptual and material distinctions of contemporary craft-based art. Students should plan to spend time working on coursework outside of scheduled class time. Syllabus subject to change if deemed necessary by instructor.
