Understanding the characteristics of genre, the requirements of form, and the evolution of these modes helps students of writing (and students of literature) realize the possibilities of a piece of writing. Students also begin to understand how their generic and formal choices create the context in which we read and write. This course involves the close study of a specific genre and its related forms.
