This course provides a basic understanding of the structure and function of organic molecules with emphasis on biological implications. Topics include principles of structure and bonding; functional groups; structural analysis; intermolecular forces; organic nomenclature; conformational analysis; stereochemistry; and an introduction to addition, substitution, and elimination reactions. The lab includes purification, extraction of natural products, synthesis, chromatography, and spectroscopy.
