Through this course, students are challenged to develop their practice and understanding of the craft of fiction, improve their critical skills in the reading of fiction by others, and gain increased depth and flexibility in their writing of narrative. This course concentrates on conventions, techniques, terminology, concepts, critiques, and theories within contemporary fiction. Students write and revise stories in a variety of forms and engage in substantial critical reading of published works. Students focus on close reading and craft analysis through the work of annotations and may complete a portfolio presenting the evolution and accomplishment of their work over the semester.
