This course is designed to examine the principles and practice of leadership in adventure education programs. Course time is spent on the examination of theories, practices, and problems of leadership in a backcountry environment. The course utilizes a number of case studies as well as direct, firsthand experiences where students are expected to engage in lesson planning and peer facilitation. Students are asked to engage in personal reflection in order to connect classroom learning with past and future leadership experiences in a variety of settings. Prerequisite: Any ODL Outdoor Recreational Activities course, ODL 1000 Foundations of Outdoor Adventure Education, ODL 2100 Backcountry Skills and Techniques, or permission of instructor.
