This course introduces basic elements of music theory, including staff notation, time signatures, rhythm, scales, chords, progressions, and intervals. Introduction to Music Theory is a prerequisite for Music Theory and Ear Training as well as certain applied music courses. It does not count as elective credit for the major or minor. Students with previous theory training are encouraged to take a placement exam to place out of this course.
