Water. Color. There is a lot to discover when we tease apart these elements. Think of this class as a place where you will learn techniques, teach techniques, craft your own paints, and reach for a painting practice that suits you, challenges you, and calls our attention to ideas important to you. We will do this by learning a variety of techniques and concepts in contemporary watercolor painting. Then, you will have the knowledge and encouragement to riff on those techniques and to make them your own. Over time, we will move into concept- and idea- driven projects exploring topics including hyperlocal materials and ecosystems.

Grades will be determined by an accumulation of points on projects, studio stewardship, participation in exhibitions, the professional quality of your art and documentation thereof, your playful experimentation and rigorous research with materials, your individual growth through the semester, and your consistent, thoughtful, active participation in our studio community.
