Welcome to the Drawing Studio!
This studio is a safe space for exploration, inquiry, and expression. Students will adopt the practice of daily drawing in a sketchbook journal, which will serve as a resource and repository for your ideas, thoughts, emotions, class notes, technique experiments, thumbnail sketches and more. Think of this journal as a documentation of your growth as a human being and drawing student this semester.
Studio time will be devoted to group demonstrations, individualized instruction on your drawing surfaces, and self-practice. Students will develop and improve upon their technical skills across a variety of media and techniques. We will visit exhibitions, learn from professional artists, and expand our expectations of how drawing can serve us. Be prepared to experiment with making drawing tools, to collaborate with your peers, and to speak about your drawings. At the end of the semester you will have a portfolio of drawings and a completed sketchbook representative of your time and development in our drawing community.
