This fall we will use the impact of Helene as a springboard into learning about the many resources at your disposal within the greater Warren Wilson community. Through writing exercises and a creative nonfiction culminating assignment we will discuss how to write about climate disaster as witnesses, journalists, and community members. We will visit locations impacted by Helene to talk to people who lived through it– artists, farmers, local politicians, members of local clergy and law enforcement, city planners and real estate developers – all have lessons to teach us about disaster response and community resilience. Ultimately, we will explore environmental impacts alongside environmental writing.
