This course will focus on theories and empirical research related to religious cognition and behavior. Example topics include: Studying the psychology of religion empirically, the religion-health link, coping, extremism, morality, and prejudice. Please note this is a course examining many different religious points of view; we will not be debating points of theology or discussing whether particular religious ideas are true. Students will be expected to read weekly course material, engage in class activities and discussions, complete weekly discussion question assignments, and complete a worship event observation paper as well as a research poster proposal. Topics courses are 2 or 4 credit, in-depth, thematic courses that may be repeated for credit under a different theme. May be repeated up to two times for a maximum of 12 credits.
